One of the many great food finds in the Ilocos Region, Northern Philippines is the empanada, a half-moon-shaped pie filled with vegetables, chorizos and egg, and fried to a crisp.
The empanada always hits the spot so it's no wonder that the Ilocanos eat them as snack or as main meal. It's best eaten with a bit of vinegar (a.k.a., sukang Iloko) in one of the many emblematic empanada stalls in front of the Vigan Cathedral in Ilocos Sur.
