The Baleares islands in Spain are often associated with beaches. When I went to Mallorca for the V Escuela de Orient about two weeks ago, the capital city of Palma de Mallorca was packed with tourists who came for the sun-and-surf part of the island.
I was glad that they took us far away from the maddening crowds to two secluded beaches in the islands. I'm not a beach person (which is a paradox since I come from the Philippines), but I did take a dip if only to say to my grandchildren in 50-years time that I swam -- nay, took a bath -- in Spain.
