Royal watcher

The King and Queen of Spain, Juan Carlos de Borbón and Sofía de Grecia, came to my university town on a rainy October 17 to lead the celebration of the 600th foundation anniversary of the College of Medicine of Valladolid. They also came to honor one of Valladolid's most famous sons, lawyer and writer Miguel Delibes.

A coterie of police escorts accompanied the Spanish monarchs in their trip to Valladolid. They first visited the historic building of the College of Law.

His Majesty Juan Carlos I exits the side door of the College of Law. And I got to shake his hand! How surreal is that? People were asking me if I was Spaniard. "Uhmm, look at my eyes. What other clue do you need?"

The Queen of Spain, Sofía of Greece, holds an honorary doctorate degree from the University of Valladolid. In fact, the last visit of Their Majesties in the city was when The Queen received the degree in the 80s.
